Chef
Elizabeth Vdovjak is a graduate of the prestigious Professional
Pastry Program
offered by L'Academie de Cuisine in Bethesda, Md. There she received
rigorous, formalized European training and began her life long
quest to create the "perfect cake."
She
began her culinary career on the West Coast and soon established
a reputation
throughout the industry, most notably at "Someplace Special" in
McLean, Virginia, and as Pastry Chef of the Renaissance Hotel, an 800 room
hotel servicing
the Washington D.C. Convention Center. There she was responsible for all
desserts and baked goods served at the hotel's restaurants, delicatessen,
and room service.
She created all banquet desserts, including the cake for the Annual Marine
Ball, which was the size of a small car!
In
1994, Chef Elizabeth left the Renaissance to open her own patisserie,
The Upper Crust Bread and Pastry Shop, in Fairfax, Virginia. The Upper
Crust was
a full service bakery offering everything from European style breads, pastries
and cakes to English Tea catering. American style muffins and pies were
offered as well. Here her cakes earned the reputation for being
what one would buy "...when
one cares enough to send the very best!"
In
1999, Chef Elizabeth decided to narrow her focus and concentrate
on her passion for creating beautiful and delicious wedding cakes.
She can

continues to provide English Tea delicacies for special occasions
such as bridal
showers or Mother's Day Teas.
